An east London mum died suddenly on the morning of her wedding in Trinidad, leaving her 10-year-old son stranded

A ‘beautiful and caring’ mother died suddenly on the morning of her wedding in Trinidad. Nadia Joseph-Gosine, 33, died on December 7, 2022 of liver disease although her sister and her lover were unaware that Nadia was ill.

Nadia, who lived in Beckton, traveled to Trinidad, where her partner of five years and her boyfriend Devon Gosine, 37, live, for their wedding. She had been in the country for a few weeks with Devon and her 10-year-old son Emari, but in the early hours of the night before her wedding day, she tragically died in her sleep.

Nadia’s sister Isha Daley, 37, remembers Nadia as a ‘little rebel’ who was ‘very lively and active’. “She was a lot of fun,” a source told MyLondon. “She wanted to be happy. A little bit of a firecracker. She was very beautiful, absolutely wonderful. And she loved life, she loved to travel.”

Nadia’s fiancee, Devon, told MyLondon that she was “the most loving, caring and true person” and the love of his life. Fighting back tears on the phone from Trinidad, he said: “She would come out for you, and she was the hardest worker, she was always happy, she was always happy in everything, she was the love of my life, always. It was the best part of my life.”

He added: “I can’t stop reminding myself of what happened, everything I saw and I’m still in disbelief. After all that we finally got married, we prepared for the rest of our lives, and suddenly It happened. It was going to be the hardest thing.”

The night before what was supposed to be their wedding day, Devon said that he and Nadia were late for their conversation. Some friends called and wished him well the next day. Devon said Nadia was having trouble sleeping, but he thought she was just worried about the big day.

He said he cuddled her and she fell asleep but when he woke up around 2am he kissed her on the cheek – as he would normally wake her up – but she didn’t respond. He realized that she was not responding and knew that something was wrong. Paramedics tried to revive him for 45 minutes but were unsuccessful.

“It happened out of the blue,” Devon said. “At least they didn’t have to suffer,” he said.

The source said Nadia, who worked in retail at stores such as Asda, Argos and Lidl, had liver and kidney problems in the past, but was under the impression she was fine now. Now Nadia was told her liver was so badly damaged that she would have died in two weeks even if she had received medical attention. There was nothing the doctors could have done earlier, Isha was told.

Devon is keeping Nadia Emari’s son in Trinidad as he is. Emari has another father, but Isha doesn’t know where he is, so she is ready to look after Emari when he returns to London. Isha has a 16-year-old daughter who is close to Emari. They don’t want Emari to travel home alone, however, they need to raise the money to book his flight, which will cost around £900.

The source, who works for the NHS, said she doesn’t think Emari is still over his mother’s death, but “he knows she’s not here and everyone’s busy”.

The source also needs to find the money to have Nadia cremated in Trinidad – which she says will cost 13,000 Trinidad dollars or around £1,500 – so she is fundraising to cover the costs. The source said her sister had canceled her life insurance three months before her death and had no travel insurance.

The source told MyLondon that she is still “holding on to hope” and it won’t be until Nadia returns home that she will fully come to terms with her loss.
