Fionnuala Kennedy said he was “gasping with rage”
A headmaster has warned students at his all-girls school “not to allow a police officer to come near you at any time”.
Fionnuala Kennedy, head of Wimbledon High School in south London, commented after the David Carrick case.
Meet Police officers Carrick admitted to 49 sexual offences, including 24 counts of rape, over two decades. He had been stopped by force.
Ms Kennedy said the case worried her about how to empower her students while keeping them safe.
The principal at the independent school wrote his comments in a blog post after Carrick’s crimes became public earlier this week.
He called the case “horrific” and said he was “gasp with rage” about the “Meeting Police’s failure to protect girls and women”.
His remarks come as the head of Met Police, Sir Mark Rowley, publishes plans to reform the police force over the next two years, after a series of scandals involving rogue officers, including Carrick.
Sir Mark said he was “determined to win back Londoners’ trust” and asked the public to comment on the plans over the next three months. The Met said its priorities include addressing violence against women and girls and identifying abuses within its ranks.
‘Anger of my students’
In her blog post, Ms Kennedy also reflected on the recent arrest of Andrew Tate – the social media influencer under investigation for allegations of sexual harassment and exploitation, which she denies.
Ms Kennedy said that both cases left her feeling “tired”, “angry” and “somewhat defeated”.

Ms Kennedy told BBC London that the anger she expressed in her post was really “the anger of my students, and I am the channel through which it is expressed”.
She said she thinks it’s “important for women to express anger when they feel it” because they are often told it is an “inappropriate” or “shameful” emotion.
Ms Kennedy said she felt it was her place to offer the advice she provides on her blog “for as long as parents are in the loop”.

He clarified that he was “not for a moment suggesting that girls don’t trust the police as a whole” and he wasn’t discouraging girls from seeking police officers if they were in trouble.
But he defended his warning to students that they should be vigilant, saying “the police have done a pretty good job cultivating distrust from the public”.
Ms Kennedy called on the Met Police to “address their cultural issues and ensure that we feel they are doing their due diligence to protect our vulnerable people”.
In response to the principal’s statement, the Met referred the BBC to Sir Mark’s statement issued soon after Carrick pleaded guilty. The Met commissioner – whose remarks preceded comments made about his reform plans – acknowledged the force had “failed women and girls and indeed we have failed Londoners”.
