Enfield shooting live: Man, in 20s, fighting for life in hospital after being shot in broad daylight

A man in his 20s is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in broad daylight in north London this afternoon (January 7). Police were called to North Middlesex Hospital shortly after 2.30pm this afternoon after a man was admitted with a gunshot wound.

Police say the man is in a critical condition and receiving treatment, and say they believe the man was shot near Derby Road in Ponders End, Enfield – around three miles away. There are multiple crime scenes, including in Derby Road, in the hospital itself, and witnesses also report seeing a large police presence in Wood Green High Road in Wood Green. Police say these scenes all relate to the same incident.

A Met spokesman told MyLondon: “Police were called by hospital staff at 2.33pm on Saturday 7 January after a man was admitted to a north London hospital with a gunshot wound.

“A man, believed to be in his 20s, is in a critical condition. receiving treatment. At this early stage the man is believed to have been injured following the shooting near Derby Road, Ponders End. No arrests have been made; inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing .

“Anyone with information that could help police is asked to call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 3607/7Jan. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The Met Police have confirmed that the victim remains in a critical condition.

‘The area is unsafe’

A man who works at a local restaurant who wished to remain anonymous told MyLondon: “This area used to be safe but now there are a lot of robberies. Someone tried to rob my wife, but luckily the car stopped and the boys ran away.

“It’s not safe to work the night shift because of robberies, and it’s especially dangerous for delivery drivers.”
