London transport agency criticized for embracing ‘woke culture’ by banning words like ‘accident’, ‘bikes’

Transport for London, the British government agency responsible for the city’s transport systems, is being criticized for embracing a “woke culture” after launching new guidelines for staff that ban words such as “post-World War II” and “accident”.

“This guide explains when and how to use abbreviations, punctuation, numbers, marks and terms related to equality and inclusion. It indicates which words should be preferred or avoided, as well as when to use uppercase or lowercase,” says the TfL website. .

The guide mainly focuses on the use of abbreviations, punctuation and style guides for employees, but also has a handful of other words with a disclaimer reading “do not use”.

The mass list says that “employees” should be used instead of “staff”; “Community, Security, Enforcement and Policy” instead of “Transport Policing and Enforcement Directorate”; “collision” instead of “accident”; and “gay man” or “lesbian” instead of “gay.”

The guide set off a firestorm of criticism of “awakened culture” rampant in England.

“This is ridiculous. TfL should focus on providing the best network it can, not wanting to offend all the time,” Tory MP Nigel Mills told the Sun. “Wake up culture in this country is out of control.”

The director of The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, Nile Gardiner, told Fox News Digital that the pervasive “wokism” in the country is an “evil destructive ideology.”

“The rise of wokism in the UK is simply ridiculous. It is a vile destructive ideology that is promoted by the far left but adopted by a large number of British institutions. And it has no place in British society. It is extremely divisive and fundamentally. non-British,” he said.

Transport for London is responsible for the city’s taxi, bus and rail systems, such as the London Underground.

The guide even outlines in a section regarding “War(s)” that employees should avoid “referring to conflicts by name if possible – for example, use ‘late 1940s’ instead of ‘post World War II'”.

Also, the words “bicycles” or “bicycles” should no longer be used, and be replaced by a “more inclusive” word: “cycles”.

Under the “disability section,” the guide notes that employees should “use positive language about disability, avoiding outdated terms that stereotype or stigmatize.”

“Don’t use ‘disabled’ or ‘wheelchair-bound’ and avoid referring to people as nouns (for example, ‘the disabled’) or as suffering or afflicted by a condition.”

Gardiner added in a comment to Fox News that he believes that woke culture in Britain is an export from the United States.

“Wokism has largely been an export from the US to Britain, and it’s only been championed by the American far left for many, many decades, and it’s now seeped into British society,” Gardiner said.

“I think it is very significant that the American awakening has left a hatred of what Britain represents in terms of its history and traditions, the British monarchy. British conservative society is anathema to American workers and it is very sad to see British institutions collapse to the far-left Marxist a dogma that exploded across the Atlantic,” he added.
