Yesterday evening (Sunday, August 28), the body of a man believed to be in his 40s was pulled from a river in Erith, south-east London, in what police are treating as an “unexpected” death.

The man’s death in the river comes just two days after another man, in his 20s, drowned in the Thames on Friday (August 26), after he “went into” the water as police tried to arrest him. After a massive multi-agency search for the man, he was pulled from the water two hours later when he was pronounced dead.

A day earlier, on Thursday, August 25, a 56-year-old man was found dead after a house fire in East London. A 37-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and arson following the fire, after police discovered the man’s body at a home on Gilbert Street in Stratford at around 10am on Thursday.

While three people have died since Thursday, two people are currently fighting for their lives in the hospital. A 23-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed twice on the Isle of Dogs in east London late last night. A second man was also rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the same area, but his condition is unknown.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy is still fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in a street in Dagenham, east London, on Saturday (August 27th). The violent attack is just one of a series of incidents over the bank holiday weekend, as two men were attacked, one man was bottled and a man robbed a supermarket armed with scissors.

The Met told MyLondon that officers were on a routine patrol at around 10.30pm on Friday (August 26) when they were flagged down on Kingston Bridge. They were invited to a verbal confrontation between a man and a woman who know each other, and a report of theft followed.

Officers were in the process of arresting the man when he “went into the water,” according to police. The Met confirmed that the man was not handcuffed. A multi-agency response was launched to find the man, including the Met’s Maritime Policing Unit, the National Police Air Service, the London Fire Brigade and the RNLI.
