Two 16-year-old boys were stabbed to death a mile away in south-east London

Two 16-year-old boys have died after being stabbed a mile apart on the same afternoon, police said.

The youths were attacked in Sewell Road, Abbey Wood, and Titmuss Avenue in Thamesmead, south east London.

The Metropolitan police were called at around 5.10pm on Saturday to reports of people injured at both locations.

Both teenagers were pronounced dead and a homicide investigation has been launched.

Because of the closeness of time and distance between the events, police are trying to establish any connection between the two deaths, police said. There are crime scenes at both locations.

The Section 60 order, which gives officers additional powers to search, is in effect until 8am on Sunday.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting reference 4943/26NOV. Information can also be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

The families of the two boys will be given the support of special officers.
